The generation of action potentials across a membrane is often a confusing topic, with sodium and potassium ions moving in different directions at different times. Understanding this process is even more difficult if you don’t have a firm understanding of how the channel proteins in the membrane work in general.
This video provides a brief tutorial on the differences between how channel proteins work in active and passive transport. The video can be used as a pre-class review of membrane proteins before proceeding into the more difficult concepts of membrane potentials.
