Our mission

How can we ensure that everyone has access to useful science knowledge if the language we use is so exclusive? Our mission at Ricochet Science is to provide relevant and accessible science research and news for people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.

From climate change and conservation efforts to diversity in science, our subject matter experts seek to provide articles that move us to think about science in new and innovative ways.

Our ultimate goal is to build a collective of scientists, science educators, and fellow nerds who are dedicated to moving science knowledge forward.

Our Collective

  • Michael Windelspecht, Ph.D.

    FOUNDER

    Michael has a Ph.D. in evolutionary genetics from the University of South Florida and has taught introductory biology and genetics for almost 20 years. He is also the managing/lead author for the Mader/Windelspecht series of texts and is the author of over 30 science books. He is also the co-founder of Inspire EdVentures, a transformational, educational experience organization, led by scientists, that inspires participants of all ages to become more knowledgeable in biology, ecology, and conservation efforts.   • Kayla Windelspecht

    EDITOR

    Kayla is a biologist and writer who has worked in science communication and education for over four years, and has contributed to the Ricochet Science blog since 2016. Her areas of focus include biology, ecology, conservation, and ecological restoration. Kayla graduated from North Carolina State University in 2019 and is currently pursuing graduate studies in ecology.

    Devin Windelspecht is a journalist based in Washington, D.C., where he covers media innovation, press freedom, environmental journalism and more. He is currently the Managing Editor of the International Journalists' Network (IJNet) at the International Center for Journalists. She has a B.S. in Biology focused on Ecology, and a M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy. Her passions are in making information more accessible to bring us all back into the remembrance of our personal power to enact change in our lives, our communities, and beyond.

  • Dave Cox

    EDUCATION CONSULTANT/CONTRIBUTOR

    Dave has been working in higher education for over 20 years. He has also taken hundreds of students, educators, and community members on international field courses. His passion lies in helping people become more aware of the importance of nature. Dave manages over 20 beehives in several apiaries. While honey is the main goal of the beehives, they are also used for honeybee research. Dave specializes in developing educational curriculum for Inspire-Edventures.
